A journal of qualities is started using a large calendar book created by Leah Bisch and purchased at Target. See leahbischstudios.com - lovely artwork based on Nature.

During a quiet moment, the first quality is chosen with a definition: "Gentleness - mild, meek. Sweetness of disposition."
(Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary)
Its definition is recorded in the space for that date. Although I considered whether to copy and carry it for the day, keeping the idea in thought is all that was done. note. This whole process can be done with index cards, too.
At the end of the day, the large spaces for that week's events are used to record article names, quotes, events, and gratitude that seem important to remember. It is noted that a lovely phone visit was had with a long time friend.

On thus day, persistence is chosen. Its definition is "Continue readily and firmly in pursuit of a goal." That day every activity was more thorough and finely tuned. If an activity or idea was not pursued with persistence, it became almost impossible to move on until it was done well! 'Focused thought' made a difference - for me anyway.
Nor do the qualities 'go away' the next day. As the entire month of days are on two facing pages, it's easy to see the previous qualities and stay alert.
January 12
Scheduled to attend a meeting and see people not seen in months, and sometimes, years seems overwhelming.
Being a bit shy, 'courage' is chosen. "To encounter danger, difficulties, (and, for me, people situations) with firmness and without fear. Courage implies patience."
And on we go. Smiles and sharing made the meeting a joy.
January 28
The month is almost done!! The days are filled with qualities from Floral Graces and definitions from the 1828 Dictionary by Noah Webster. (the first person to create a dictionary for the united States. It's on an app.)
Sometimes qualities are used more than once.
Today's quality is 'Hope - A desire for good with a slight expectation of certainty. It incudes joy and pleasure; confidence in a future event."
or
'Joyous certainty'
as a friend once told me.
To keep the focus on filling out information, a quality was chosen for the month. Self-discipline spurred me on many times when it seemed a 'bit of a push' to fill in ideas. Definition: "Correction or regulation of oneself for the sake of improvement."
This word wasn't around in 1828! The online Merriam-Webster.com
was used.
For sure, being aware of expressing an immortal quality helps me to see them in others.
Plus. The quality and/or definition makes a great text message for giving compliments.
Here comes February!

Trudi
